The following guidelines will help novices in the winemaking department. Follow these steps for you to know how to make white wine at home. For the equipment, you can buy, rent or just use the ones you already have at home. Just make sure that you sanitize and clean everything including your work station. You wouldn’t want bacteria or vinegar flier to contaminate your mixture, do you?

Before we go ahead and teach you the basics on how to make white wine at home, please do take note of the following things that you will need:

Things You’ll Need:

• fermentation locks
• plastic bucket
• sulphite crystals
• wine yeast
• wine grapes
• glass wine fermentors
• acid-testing kits for wine
• Glass Wine Fermentors
• Sulphite Crystals
• Wine Grapes
• Wine Yeast
• Acid-testing Kits For Wine
• Plastic Bucket
• Plastic Bucket

So how to make white wine? Let’s get on with it.

Before Fermentation

1.Grapes must be crushed without the stems.
2. Discard the pulp and skins as you press into the bucket. The juice left should be clear.
3. Get your sulfite crystals and add them to the juice. Be sure that your measurement for sulfite powder is 0.1 gram per liter or 1 campden tablet per 10 liters. Mix it into 1 cup of warm water and then with a wooden spoon, stir into juice. You may also use plastic spoon if the other is not available.
4. At this point, the brix of juice must be about 22 to 24 degrees which will depend on the varietal used. For those who don’t know, Degrees Brix (symbol °Bx) is a kind of measurement of the dissolved sugar-water mass ratio of a liquid.
5. You may add sugar to the juice if the Brix is lower than 21 degrees.
6. You may use an acid testing kit to both check and adjust your juice’s acid level The acid-testing kit can be bought at winemaking shops. Make sure that the acid content of your mixture should be about 6.5 to 7.5 g/liter.
7. Be sure that your juice’s temperature is always checked. You may adjust when you think it’s necessary. The ideal temperature must be between 55 and 65 degrees F. It is very crucial to maintain the temperature below 60 degrees F all throughout the process, as well as during fermentation.
8. Siphon the juice to glass fermentors but only 2/3 full. Seal it with an airlock or a fermentation lock.
9. Leave it for 24 hours.
10. Afterwards, for every 3.8 liters of juice add 1 gram yeast pellets dissolved in 1 cup warm water. Then leave it for 10 minutes before adding to fermentor. Seal it again with a fermentation lock.

Fermentation

11. Make sure you check Brix two times a day.
12. You must also chevk the temperature two times a day. It is crucial that the temperature remains at or below 60 degrees F.
13. Brix will eventually reach 0 and when it does, this means that the fermentation is complete. Let the fermentation lock remain attached.
14. At this time, you can now siphon the wine while straining off the sediment. As the sediment settles, rack or strain it off from the wine. Siphon the clear wine into glass containers that have already been sanitized or cleaned. At this point, you may now completely fill the containers.
15. You can add the sulfite. Then seal with an airlock or fermentation lock. Maintain the temperature at or below 60 degrees F.
16. Each time the sediment settles out, rack it. This usually happens every 3-6 weeks.
17. Rack and add sulfite after the sediment settles.
18. Leave it and let it age for an appropriate amount of time.
19. Time to bottle your wine.
20. Let wine bottle for appropriate amount of time.

The procedure on how to make white wine may seem a lot but it just really is simple. Just follow each one carefully and remember to enjoy yourselves too.

But considering that homemade wine makes an absolute superb gift why not spruce up those gifts to be absolutely gorgeous too! As the adage says, "It's all in the packaging". And you can easily create beautiful and functional labels from your home computer without spending a fortune doing it.

or How to Create Beautiful Wine Labels

You’ve done all the research, invested in all the supplies, and through much trial-and-error, you have finally come up with a wine you are really proud of! Naturally the next step is to share this homemade wine with friends and family.

Now maybe you haven’t yet given much thought to the creation of a wine labeling system. Well, there are several good reasons to do just that. As a home winemaker, it’s important that you know each bottle’s contents, history, and vintage year<noindex></noindex>. Or maybe you already have a wine labeling system, but it’s not pretty at all. Instead of spending your money with those multitudes of companies out there that will create your labels for you at quite a pricey penny, you’ve opted for a purely functional wine labeling system. That’s fine.

But considering that homemade wine makes an absolute superb gift why not spruce up those gifts to be absolutely gorgeous too! As the adage says, “It’s all in the packaging”. And you can easily create beautiful and functional labels from your home computer without spending a fortune doing it.

Tools Needed

Computer

Graphics Software
- most cost from $0 – $50 in the US. There is a light version of Photoshop that will create labels for the amateur with ease. It usually costs less than $39 and is sometimes given free with purchases of scanners or digital cameras.

Printer & Label sheets (optional)
- Without a printer you can save your label art to a jump drive and take it to a copying facility, such as Kinko’s for printing. However, if you have a printer, you can print these yourself.

Scanner (optional)
- Printers and scanners can be bought new for less than $100 in the US

Design Pointers / Tips

Labels can be enhanced with clip art which can be obtained free from the Internet libraries. Be sure to check out the copyright regulations and secure permission before downloading these images. Many libraries have no restrictions and the images are free to any user. For a list of some of these libraries, go to <noindex>www.clipart.com</noindex>.

Other options include placing a photograph on the wine label. Photos are also available on the web sites. Kodak has a site which will allow you to cartoonize your photos, alter them with filters, make picture puzzles, etc. The site is at <noindex>http://alts1.kodak.com/US/en/corp/playground/index.shtml</noindex>.

Putting your photograph into a digital format can be done by scanning in a photograph or using a digital camera. The format is often in a JPG format. This is a compressed bitmap. There are basically three types of digital formats: One is a bitmap (termed raster) where the image is composed of tiny dots and is often used to represent photographs. Examples of these have extensions .BMP, JPG, GIF, etc. The second is a vector that uses math equations to represent curvatures and straight lines and is often used with clip art drawings. Examples of these have the extensions such as CGM, CGA, PIC, etc. The third is a metafile which is a combination of vector and bitmaps graphics. Examples of these are WMF, EMS, WPG, GEM, etc. There are several formats in each of these categories. Makers of software choose which category and format to use depending on the software application. However, some formats are interchangeable and most can be converted. The most popular bitmap formats for the Internet are JPG and GIF.

If you’re using an ink jet printer you may want to protect your label art from bleeding should it come in contact with any liquid. Simply print your wine labels, allow the ink to dry, spray on a waterproof coating, separate the labels, then apply the labels to the bottle.

Here are some spray coatings that can be be found at your local arts and crafts or hobby store (such as <noindex>Michaels</noindex>) for about $5.95 to $7.95 a can:

Polyurethane

Blair Color Gloss Plastic Coat

Kamar Varnish – made by Krylon

Spray Varnish – made by Delta

Top Coat Spray (satin finish) – made by Delta

Clear Acrylic Sealers (gloss) – made by Krylon

Spray coatings of this sort can be found at your local arts and crafts or hobby store (such as <noindex>Michaels</noindex>) for about $5.95 to $7.95 a can.

Labels can be attached to the bottles using a glue stick or rubber cement. Peel & Stick Labels are widely available and most software includes avery templates to begin designing on.

Again, armed with a computer and some low priced software (maybe free or shareware) you can generate wine labels that are unique and personal.

When making wine homemade, you will discover how simple and easy it is. You don’t really have to buy nifty and brand new equipment just to be able to make some wine homemade. For all you know, the things you need are already right in your own kitchen. So go check them out first and see if you already have them.

- ½ Gallon Winchester Bottles

- Wine Bottles with Corks.

- Boiler (make sure it’s made of aluminum or enamel).

- Glass Tubing

- Hydrometer

- One Gallon Glass Jars with Corks

- Plastic Dustbin or any large plastic vessel.

- Polyvinyl Tube.

- Small Press.

Other Equipment and Tools:

- Bottle-Cleaning Brush

- Casks

- Colander

- Cork Borer

- Corking device

- Jelly Bags for straining

- Large Polythene Funnel

- Measuring Jugs

- Scales

- Small Funnels

- Stone Jars

- Thermometer

- Tie-on labels for jars and stick-on labels for bottles

- Wooden Spoon

Those that you couldn’t find at home, you may go check your local supermarket and buy them there.

Now that you have completed the list of equipment you need for your wine homemade, it is now time to gather your ingredients. As you go on with this whole activity of creating wine homemade, you will eventually come up with your own wine recipe, experimenting with other exotic ingredients if you wish. That’s when your creativity will come in. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s first gather the basic ingredients so you can start making your own wine homemade. Here they are:

Wine Yeast

One of the most important ingredients in making wine homemade is yeast. Without yeast, then there can be no wine so to speak. There are numerous kinds of yeasts that are available in the market which you can use. Just ask for the best brand used in wine making and the store manager will be happy to help you. Once you have this ingredient, it is also important that you follow the ideal condition for the yeast to grow and do its job. But not to fret, the conditions are very easy to follow which you will soon learn about as you go through the process of fermentation. For now, let’s just stick with completing the ingredients first.

Sugar

Sugar is the “food” that the yeast feeds on. This is why sugar is very important in wine making, without which alcohol will not be produced therefore, no wine. There is also an amount that you need to follow so you can reach that level of fermentation that is good for your wine homemade. There are still other critical information that as a winemaker, you must know, when purchasing your sugar. This is to ensure that the wine you are making has the best quality and/or is at par with those sold in the markets and wine stores. You will know these things eventually as you go through the whole process of wine homemade.

Acid

Acid levels in your wine are determining factors in the proper level of fermentation for your yeast and sugar. Thus, it is best to follow the wine making instructions in your recipe or wine eBook if you have one. Correct acid levels will make sure that you get the best quality later on. After having done this for quite a while, you will be comfortable enough to do more advanced wine making recipes which you can sell and profit from in the near future.

Tannin

With the right amount of tannin in your mixture, it will greatly improve the taste and texture of your wine homemade. If you’ve had a dry tasting wine before, that’s all because of the tannin in the mixture which makes the texture dry to the mouth. Like the other ingredients, you must follow the correct amount given in the wine making recipes. If not, you could have some uncharacteristic taste to your wine.

Every single wine kit that I’ve ever purchased comes with a package of potassium sorbate. The instructions that come with the wine kits tell us to add sorbate at the same time that we are to add potassium metabisulfite. However, many winemakers balk at adding sorbate to their wine and don’t always follow instructions.

Why the balking? Many believe that potassium sorbate adds a bubblegum flavor to wine, or as some call it, “kit wine taste.” So why do so many advise to add this stuff to our wines after the fermentation has been completed?

Well, let’s bust one common myth right at the outset. Potassium sorbate does not kill yeast. Many believe that the purpose of this additive is to kill yeast. What sorbate does, at the correct quantity, is slow down and stop the reproduction of yeast. It will not stop yeast from continuing to ferment a wine, nor will it prevent a fermentation when it’s added to juice before the juice has been inoculated with yeast.

Primarily, it is used to prevent a re-fermentation of the wine if there is enough residual sugar left in the wine after it has been bottled or if a wine has been sweetened after it has fermented. You may have heard stories – or perhaps it’s happened to you, where a home winemaker has bottled their wine, only to start hearing corks popping out of the bottles six months later. This is because there was enough sugar in the wine for some yeast cells to feed on and begin reproducing. As they feed on the remaining sugar, the produce more alcohol and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide build up in the bottles creates enough pressure that the corks are forced out of the bottles and the wine inside blasts out.

Dry wines that have fermented to very little or zero residual sugar and that will be bottled without a sugar based sweetener added do not need any additions of potassium sorbate. If there is no sugar for any remaining yeast cells, there will be no re-fermentation by yeast.

If the winemaker is making an off-dry or sweet wine, potassium sorbate should be added to the wine to stabilize it. Generally, the rate of 1/2 teaspoon per gallon is the rule of thumb.

If you’re new to <noindex>home winemaking</noindex>, I’d recommend that you use the potassium sorbate additive in your wine until you are very comfortable using a <noindex>hydrometer </noindex>to measure the specific gravity and understand the relationship of sugar and yeast. Wine kit makers don’t want to take any chances that you may not have fermented your dry wine completely, and therefore instruct that you add sorbate at the same time as sulfite. Potassium sorbate is more effective when used in conjunction with potassium sorbate.

Well first off I want to tell you I usually don’t do all this online eBook stuff. I always think of it to be scams and rip offs but my friend convinced me so much to give this one a shot I thought why not. After tasting his beer I wanted to try it out for myself!

The eBook goes into great detail about every aspect of what you need to know. It goes into ingredients, good environments to make beer in and even shows you why usual homemade beer tastes so bad. The secret way to store your beer and stop it from spoiling has been a “beer saver” for me, allowing me to make vast quantities of beer at a time and not worry about having to drink them all before they spoil. The eBook goes into detail about proper storage and drinking responsibly as well.

If you’re sick of going to the pub and paying sometimes up to $8 for a pint then this guide is for you. For very little money you can start making your own beer, in turn saving you money. For mere pennies you’ll have your own brewery in your garage, shed or even your main house.

Like I said at the beginning I was skeptical buying this guide but I am so glad that I did. It taught me everything I needed to know and tells of closely guarded secrets I’d never have even imagined before for getting the best possible taste and colour.

So if there is anyone out there sick of high prices for lager and wishing to start making their own, this is definitely the right guide for you. Whether you want to make a few pints worth a month or a few kegs a month this guide will tell you everything you need to know.

Being a wine maker, I am occasionally asked how to make wine. I usually give people the story about how I came about this hobby. When me and my older brother were going to the same university, he would make his own mead in his basement. Mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey. My brother had a simple kit that he bought somewhere and it worked great. Six weeks after beginning the process, he had 24 bottles of homemade mead that tasted great. This was one of my first introduction to making homemade alcoholic beverages.

Unfortunately, my brother is now at Western Michigan getting his PHD, so I no longer have access to his mead. I decided to take the hobby up myself and make my own great tasting wine.

I decided for myself that I would focus on making red wine instead of mead. Now, I will say that I have since made mead, but I started out with making red wine because I thought it would be a lot more challenging and fun. What I realized was that it is a lot of fun, but there isn’t nearly as much work as I had imagined.

For those of you interested in taking up this hobby, I want you to understand that it doesn’t have to be a major project that you have to watch constantly. Set aside 10 minutes of your day and you’ll have great wine in a few weeks. I recommend all wine lovers to try making wine at least once in their lives. It is truly a fulfilling hobby.

The first thing I do before starting a new hobby or project is research. I hit the web and try to learn as much as I can while taking notes. During my research, I came across and bought multiple wine guides that had great ratings from people that had purchased them. They can cost anywhere from $10-$50 each and some were way better than others.

One of the online books that I bought worked out great for a complete novice like myself. It’s a 100 page manual that teaches everything from building your own wine kit to selecting the right types of fruit to the bottling process. The author is an avid wine maker who releases new videos every month for free to people that have bought his guide. It’s great! If you know absolutely nothing about making your own wine, then this is the guide I recommend you to look into.

The most important process in wine making is definitely the fruit selection. I had no idea how important it was until I read about it in the guide. The fruit you choose needs to be perfect. No bruises, scratches, or anything. This guide shows you how to go about finding local vineyards so that you can get the best, most freshest grapes possible. This is by far the easiest to follow guide for wine making that I have ever come across. Since it is an ebook, you can download it, print it, highlight parts that you want to remember, print pictures of the fruit you want, etc.

It is also important that you learn which materials to buy to get you started on your own kit. I think I paid around $50 to have a complete setup. You can also buy kits at a few stores out there if you do not want to build your own. I started with 5 gallons and I recommend you do the same. Don’t start with 1 gallon because you will be out of that 1 gallon of wine before you know it.

My favorite part about having my own winery in my home is the fact that you can give your homemade wine away as gifts! Wine is always a great gift and my friends and family are always very thankful when they receive my gift. Plus, it serves as a great addition to parties. Just bring over a few bottles and people will be complimenting your homemade wine all night. It makes for great conversation. I am constantly being complimented on my wine and I am always the life of the party because of it.

Learning how to make wine is one of the most fulfilling hobbies. I recommend all wine lovers to try it out.

Cheers and happy wine making!

If this question lingers in your mind that what is the procedure for homemade wine, then you will be glad to know that you can make your own wine at home by using home wine kits or wine making products. Crafting the wine is not that much difficult as it seems because what you need to know is Homemade Wine Recipes and right usage of Wine Making Equipments. And make sure before starting the procedure, you have all wine supplies and required Wine Making Accessories.

You can make your wine either with the help of home wine making kits or with various available Wine making equipments or accessories. And don’t forget to check homemade wine recipes book when you go to purchase the wine kits or wine making equipments as it will assist you in making your wine. You will also need other wine supplies like Wine Yeast, Grape juice or other juices and Potassium sorbate, and Campden tablets etc. which are helpful to make your wine long lasting. Once you get your Home Wine Kits, you can start producing wine at home in order to impress your loved ones or friends.

The most important and crucial step involved in producing wine at home is to get the wine fermented and bottled. However there are various wine making accessories that can make your job easier but wine-making kits are rather more popular due to their less labor intensive procedure.

The equipments that are needed for making homemade wine are mentioned below:

Fermenters: Depending upon the quantity being produced of wine, buckets, also known as pickle bucket that are needed to store and ferment wines.

A wine press: It helps to extract the maximum amount of juice of any fruit and to crush the fruits. It is powered by an electric drill and with a stainless steel cutting blade; it gets fruits pulped by its rotating blade.

Heaters: These are necessary to maintain the required temperature at the fermentation stage to make wine at home successfully.

Hydrometers: These help to measure the amount of ingredients like sugar, gravity and potential alcohol in the fermentation process.

Filter Kills: keeping in mind the sanitation of wine, it is essential to use filters to remove haze particles, yeasts cells or possible bacteria. So filter kits help to attain this purpose and make the taste of homemade wine more delicious.

Corks & Corking: These ensure the correct seal for bottles containing stored wine.

So either you can buy aforementioned wine making equipments or accessories or home wine making kits to realize your passion to produce home-made wine.

So you have learned a lot about health benefits of wine and wish to try it out. Excellent! So, you’re into the process of buying the very best wine that’s available around. You have developed an expensive investment and are happy to bring home the prize. Now that you’ve brought your preferred wine home, you have to know about how to store it correctly to make certain which you will not ruin it. Safe-keeping of wine is definitely an important topic and one requires to learn a great deal about it in order to maintain the wine in good and drinkable condition.

Are you mindful that the major elements affecting safe-keeping of homemade wine are present within the environment? Yes, it really is true. You have to know about how you can really store homemade wine to maintain its original quality and taste that made you fall for it at the first place.

Here are some of the elements you need to think about in order to store your wine in a ideal manner. Understand the elements given below and follow the instructions to ensure that you do not wind up wasting your hard earned income.

a) Correct hygiene of the premises:

This is a vital factor that affects wine storage. It’s very important to maintain the cleanliness of the place wherever the wine is located. In no way store wine inside a poor ventilated place or a place full of grime or filth. Weak ventilation transforms the taste of the homemade wine and the dirt will ruin the content label around the bottle of wine. Therefore, affecting the overall resale price of the homemade wine.

b) Lighting:

Light is known to have a major effect on the properties of homemade wine. It can promote premature maturing of homemade wine. If wine is stored in a place exactly where there is definitely an access to a lot of light, it may ‘turn’ the wine.

c) Angle of the bottle:

Always store your wine in a horizontal position against the upright one. This can not dry out the cork. As long as wine comes into contact with the cork, it will not dry out. If you do not hold the wine bottle at a horizontal angle, the cork may dry out. This allows for the air to come in touch with the wine sooner than it really should and ruin it.

d) Vibrations:

You should never shop wine inside a vibration free atmosphere.

e) Humidity:

About 70 percent of humidity in a facility is acceptable for storing wine. Greater amount of humidity will destroy the label and reduce amount of humidity will sped up the procedure of oxidation and end up in ruining the wine.

f) Temperature:

The optimum temperature to be maintained in a wine storage facility is between fifty and forty five degrees Fahrenheit. Reduce temperature than this can delay the nature aging procedure and greater temperature will speed up this procedure.

You should work towards maintaining a healthy balance in between all the above mentioned factors. This can help in proper storage of wine. The taste is going to be maintained. Wine storage is an art and you have to learn it before you really practice it.
