If you are getting a great deal to get wine every three months, then go for it because you’ll save on things like shipping costs. However, it is fun getting new wine every single month and you may drink all of your vino before the next 3 month shipment. If you having a monthly club, you will be able to pace yourself a little bit better because you will not have all the vino at once.

One reason why My Wines Direct is a great club is because they usually run free shipping offers and that saves you a lot of money on each shipment. If you are looking to get a special wine deal, check out the best clubs link above and take a look at the variety of clubs that are the best priced and have the best tasting wine.

The wines on that list are also good for people new to wine because they have such detailed information about the wine and usually come with a freebie like wine glasses or a corkscrew!

Many clubs are well priced, but sometimes the cost of shipping can really boost that price up. If you are trying to find a club with free shipping, you should look no further than My Wines Direct which typically has free shipping. Click this link to read a my wines direct wine review.

If you want to see a list of the best wine clubs in the marketplace, click this link to look at a list of the best wine clubs.

When getting a wine club, you must also decide if you want something that will be delivered every few months or a club that will deliver a smaller quantity every month. Personally, it doesn’t matter which way in my eyes, because it all depends on the kind of deal you are getting.

I love wine!

Satisfy Your Wine Desires

December 3rd, 2011  |  Published in Wine

If you are a wine fanatic, you have many options to satisfy your thirst. But before you choose an option, you should know how to taste wine.

In order to do a proper wine tasting, you need to swish the wine around your mouth. This helps get the most out of your taste buds. Here are more tips in order to taste wine.

Look at the wine color. The more color a white wine has, the more flavor it has and the older it is. You can approximate the age of a red wine by titling the glass and looking at the edge of the wine. The browner it is, the older it is.

Smell the wine by taking one deep whiff. After you do this you want to think about the aroma.

When you taste the wine, you want to consider the first impression, the actual taste once you swish it in your mouth, and the after taste.

Now for the wine tasting options:

You could join a wine club. Wine clubs allow members to pay a monthly fee in order to have a selection or two of wine delivered to their home monthly.

The International Wine of the Month Club offers members selections from two separate boutique vineyards along with a newsletter. You have a choice in the type of membership you select. You can receive two red wine selections, two white wine selections, or one of each. Membership to the wine club starts at 27.95 per month plus shipping and handling. The most expensive membership option costs 63.95 per month plus shipping and handling. The International Wine of the Month Club also offers gift memberships.

The Cellars Wine Club is similar to the International Wine of the Month Club in that you can receive two red wine selections, two white wine selections, or one of each. However, The Cellars Wine Club offers five different membership options. The premium wine club, the west coast wine club, the all about reds wine club, the platinum wine club and 90 plus points wine club. The wine club memberships start at 36.95 with the most expensive being 79.95

Perhaps a wine club isnt up your alley. Maybe a wine cellar is. The idea wine cellar has a temperature of 50 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The cellar should be moderately damp because this helps keep the corks from drying out. Ultraviolet light destroys wine so your wine cellar should be dark. Avoid putting your wine cellar sheds or garages because you run the risk of freezing the wine. Similarly, avoid the attic because the heat could get too extreme. The best place for a wine cellar would be an under stairs cupboard.

Maybe you just have a few bottles of wine you want to store and display. A wine rack would be your best option. Wine racks come in large sizes to place in your cellar but there are also smaller wine racks that can sit on your kitchen or dining room table. If you really want to get creative, there are wine racks that are also bookends

Next you might decide that you need a technique for comparing wines.
The Exploratorium describes a technique of comparing wine aromas that is similar to the following

First you will need these ingredients:

A tiny piece of bell pepper, one drop of butter, half teaspoon of fresh citrus, linalool, a teaspoon of peach juice, a teaspoon of pineapple juice and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
You take these 7 ingredients and put each in its own wine glass with the base wine. You cover the glass and label it with the standard. Smell the first three wine separately. Then smell the standards to see which terms describe which wines.

The Great Albarino Scandal of 2009

November 7th, 2011  |  Published in Wine

Everybody loves a good scandal, and this one`s got government officials scurrying for cover like sprayed cockroaches – from Barcelona to the Barossa…somebody has stuffed up big time…

Like with the rugby, the global dominance of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is annoying for every good Australian wine-grower and it is heartening to see the growers trying new regions, clones and varietals to come up with a contender to the good old Marborough cats-pee and capsicum concoctions of New Zealand.

One of the countries the Australians looked to for alternatives was Spain and in particular, the Albarino grape.

To cut a long story short, the Australians shipped the varietal in, planted it, labelled and started selling it…..then a few years later somebody in the corridors of power finished his tea break, looked at the Australian Albarino clone under a microscope and found out that in actual fact the stuff is NOT Albarino – it is something called Sauvinee Blanc (The word Sauvinee has a fabulous Spanish twirl over the “e” but I have given up looking for it on my laptop).

The Australian authorities are blaming the Spanish authorities who are denying any liability and the farmers, quite rightly are howling for blood, after investing in the varietal and its potential positioning in the global market. I first fell over the grape at an ANZA Wine Club Spanish night, and the first thing that came into my Chorizo and Grenacha addled-mind at the time was – “holy hell this stuff is good Sauvignon Blanc.”

It has the same acid – maybe a bit more refined. It generally has that same crisp acid potential that we demand from our Sauvignon Blanc together a fair slug of lush tropical fruit. It seems in short, a great Sauvignon Blanc alternative for those interested in the next-best-thing in aromatic whites, and how cares what its called – so long as it tastes good?

I have chosen a version from each side of the fence on this one to recommend.

From Australia, my flavour of the moment is Jim Irvine’s Albarino/Sauvignee Blanc from the Barossa.

From Spain – the source of the Scandal – Eidos de Padrinan Albarino 2008 from Spain.

As a twin pack in a history lesson its loads more fun than learning about the Magna Carta any day…

For Fine but Affordable Wine Gifts, Try a Wine of the Month Club

October 7th, 2010  |  Published in Wine Gifts

I’m ashamed to admit, the screw top once upon a time used to fit just right. When I was younger I really didn’t appreciate good wine. I couldn’t afford too, at least so I thought. As I got older, so my taste in friends matured, as did my taste for wine. One friend was quite the wine connoisseur. He must have belonged to nearly a dozen wine clubs. He always had a bottle, and some of it even tasted like chocolate. His Christmas gifts were always wine gifts, and pretty soon we developed an appreciation for fine wine. Boon’s Farm just wouldn’t do any longer.

I figured these wine gifts must have cost $30 a bottle, since I priced the same bottles in the grocery store. My friend made decent money, but he wasn’t rich by any means. I couldn’t understand how he could afford such extravagant wine gifts, and he shared them like they were candy. That’s until one late night over an exquisite bottle of wine, he bragged he only paid $10 for it, though I’d seen the same bottle on a wine shop’s shelf for nearly $30. That’s when he told me about the beauty of wine clubs and how their value really adds up. He gets the best deals on all types of wine gifts through the wine of the month club.

Wine clubs? Who would have thought? Like business, wine pays to be well connected. I joined a wine of the month club, and it was surprisingly affordable. Through my wine club, I receive new wine gifts every month, and their only $10 a bottle. Wine clubs make it affordable to drink truly exquisite wine. Thanks to the wine club of the month, I can afford to be a wine snob.

Best of all is the variety of wine clubs available. They’ve got a wine club for just about every taste and flavor. Surprisingly affordable, my wife and I decided to join several wine clubs to get a broad spectrum. We regularly enjoy wine gifts from California, France, Belgium, so we really get a feel for wine from all over the world. Thanks to the wine club of the month, we’re pretty familiar these days with fine wine.

No, we’re not snobs. We’re just wine snobs. There’s a difference. It’s okay to get picky about wine gifts. Thanks to the wine of the month club, we can afford to be. Why not taste the good life when it’s only $10 a bottle?

Buy 2007 Sauvignon Blanc in $12.00, Ordering Sauvignon Blanc, sauvignon blanc wine club

July 27th, 2010  |  Published in Wine

http://www.ancientpeaks.comCabernet Sauvignon and other wines reflect our commitment to crafting fine wines from our estate Margarita Vineyard in the Paso Robles wine country. We endeavor to craft the best California wine possible from each vintage, showcasing the flavors of Margarita Vineyard and the larger excellence of Paso Robles wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in our estate Margarita Vineyard, where the varietal benefits from one of the longest growing seasons in the Paso Robles appellation. Here, eight miles northeast of the city of San Luis Obispo and just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean, our California Cabernet Sauvignon grapes achieve full ripeness while maintaining exceptional balance and structure the defines the resulting Cabernet Sauvignon wine. The 2006 vintage has earned numerous positive wine reviews and was called a “great buy” by the Wine Spectator Online as one of their best wines under $20. Other Cabernet ratings include a “Good Value” designation from the Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine.

Our Cabernet vineyards were first planted by Robert Mondavi, whose Cabernet Napa Valley is known as a benchmark cab wine. Our Cabernet wines are naturally different from the Cabernet Robert Mondavi, due to the unique location of our Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. However, we are proud of their link to one of California’s pioneers of fine red wine.

We invite you to taste and buy Cabernet at our tasting room in Santa Margarita. We even have discount wines available during special events, and we offer vineyard tours on the first and third Saturdays of each month. You may also join a wine club—specifically, our A-List wine club. We focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, but our tasting room is also a great place to find a California wine gift, California wine map, Cabernet Sauvignon wines and even unusual wines such as Malbec and Petit Verdot.

Best wine Shop in Philippines – Clark Wine Center in Clark Freeport Philippines

June 23rd, 2010  |  Published in Wine

Wine lovers all over Asia know of this place and make the trip to Clark Philippines to load up on rare vintage wines that are often cheap in comparison to prices in their home towns. Moreover, old vintage wines especially those that are not that famous are hardly seen in Asia. Asian wine lovers and collectors stick to big names. As a result, Lafite, Petrus and Margaux are plenty but real wine connoisseurs don’t drink the labels. They go for better values in the Cru Bourgeois for Bordeaux and the lesser known domaines and negociants wines – especially the 1er cru wines – in Burgundy. Yats also operates a fine-dining wine restaurant called Yats Restaruant and Wine Bar in Clark Philippines www.YatsRestaurant.com . It is located inside the Mimosa Leisure Estate which also houses a 36-hole championship golf club called Mimosa Golf, as well as a casino. Clark is packed with action, so wine shopping aside, there are other meaningful things to spend some quality time. Yats Restaurant can cook up all sorts of gourmet meals. The chef is from London and the maitre ‘d is from Holland. This is certainly an international outfit. To get more information about Clark Wine Center or other establishments mentioned here, email Wine@Yats-International.com. The trip from Shanghai is not exactly short but with hundreds of tourists heading down there with plans to purchase vintage wines to bring home, there’s got to be some magic in that 2-storey wine shop.
