Buying Cheap Champagne Glasses

February 5th, 2012  |  Published in Wine

Champagne glasses are increasingly becoming popular for some special occasions. For instance, in the event that you want to use them for your wedding party or some other important dinner, you will definitely like the excitement and value they will add to the occasion. It is also important to state that they can appear expensive if certain things are not put into consideration when purchasing them.

The first thing to consider has to do with identification of what your interests are. This is because of the fact that many styles are currently available on our various markets. For instance, you may want to know of the ones with the fluted edge. The name depicts the shape of a flower petal or some kind of wide ripples.

Another thing you may be interested to know is that the champagne glasses also come in both plastic as well as glass. In most cases, the cheap flute types are known to be made of plastics. What actually happens is that apart from being in one piece, there is also the possibility of assembling them by attaching the glass itself to the stem.

When the need arises, one of the best approaches you can adopt to get an affordable product is by buying them in bulk and not in individually. What is fundamental is that irrespective of the type chosen, they will most likely serve the purpose you want. It is also worth knowing that when the expected guests is small and doesn’t require bulk purchase, you should then prepare to pay a bit more as they are usually priced per each glass. There are many places one can get cheap champagne glasses to buy.

Apart from the glassware out there, you will also likely have one at a liquor shop near you. At any place you consider, it will be prudent on your part to consider the various styles and designs available. Feel free to compare the prices from as many shops as you can. You will most definitely get the one that meets your budget. Don’t forget that some can be more expensive especially if found at some upscale departments.

Another useful tip about cheap champagne glasses has to do with buying them from the local and party stores especially close to holiday periods. Checking online can also be great idea since it can even be more convenient and hassle-free.

Buying Wine – Big Stores or Small Shops?

January 9th, 2012  |  Published in Wine

Wine is a billion dollar industry. In our modern culture, this means it has come into the sights of the huge, mega market stores that we all visit to buy 400 rolls of toilet paper and 10 pound jars of peanut butter. The question addressed in this article is whether you should buy at the big stores or the little, specialty versions?

Modern society is all about convenience. The fact there are now cars that will back up and parallel park for you should both tell prove that and be embarrassing! Regardless, the mega store has become the hub for most of our shopping. These stores now carry everything from lawn furniture to food to cars and, yes, wine. Well, not just wine. They carry wine in volume. You don’t buy a bottle. You buy half of that year’s production! Ah, but should you?

There are definite advantages to buying wine at the large mega stores. Chief among them is the simple fact that by buying in volume, you save some serious money. There are, however, downsides. The first is there is no one to discuss the merits of the wines being offered with. The second is there usually isn’t a lot of choice. A wine shop might offer a couple thousand choices. A mega store might offer 20 or 30. At most!

The wine specialty shop is an entirely different world. In contrast to the mega store, the specialty shop is usually owned and manned by a big time wine lover. They can tell you anything you want to know [and more] about the wines they have on offer, the vines they came from and so on. These shops tend to have a few cheaper wines, but many more expensive versions.

There are numerous advantages to buying wine from specialty shops. First and foremost is the fact you will get answers to your questions. Second, you can obtain some truly fine vintages. If you continue to go to the store, they will develop a feel for your preferences and make recommendations for you and even order in special selections just for you. It is a great way to discover some amazing wines!

So, which is better? Each has its place. I generally approach my wine purchases using the following strategy. I buy “every day” wine from the mega stores. I then buy specific bottles for storing and special occasions from the specialty shops. It is somewhat akin to having both a pickup truck and Ferrari in the garage. You drive the pickup truck all the time, but it is nice to pull out the Ferrari every so often.

Basic Checklist for Buying Wine In A Store

January 1st, 2012  |  Published in Wine

Buying wine can be a tricky proposition for many of us. In this article, we take a look at a basic checklist of subjects that need to be considered when determining if a bottle is worth your hard earned money.

Importantly, this article is not about the merits of a particular wine. Instead, we are focusing just on what to consider when standing in a shop and looking at various bottles of wine. Obviously, you can’t tell if a wine is good or bad per se while just standing there, but you can determine if there might be a problem with the way the winery packaged the bottles or the store treats them.

The first thing to consider is temperature. Wine usually sits out on the shelves or racks in a store. Wine needs to be stored in a cool environment. I’ve been in a few places selling wine that were uncomfortably warm. Wine will go bad under such circumstances and you should strongly consider finding another location that keeps the temperature down.

The needs of wine contrast with the marketing needs of a shop. Wine is best when it is not exposed to light. Wine shops need to put wine on display if they hope to sell it. This catch-22 has led to situations where I’ve actually seen stores place wine in the long, tall windows that run down the sides of the place. Ah, wine boiling in the sun. I bet that is going to taste bad!

Assuming you’ve found a decent wine shop [most are], it is time to take a look at the bottle. Modern wine production has eliminated most of the issues that used to arise, but two still need to be considered. First, check the cork. It should be flush with the top of the bottle. If it is noticeably sunk into the bottle, it could be a sign of a leak which could make the wine go bad over time. Obviously, avoid such bottles. The other issue is cloudiness. Hold the bottle up and look through it. The only wine that should show any cloudiness is an older red. Anything else needs to be avoided!

Buying wine was much more of an art 20 years ago. Production values have risen dramatically during that time, so the only real issues that arise have to do with the quality of the store selling the wine. As long as the wine is out of the light and temperatures are cool, you should be okay.

Thomas Ajava writes for NomadJournals.com – keeping a wine journal with the labels from bottles and your tasting notes to develop a preferred wine list over time.

Thermoelectric Wine Fridge Buying Guide – Introduction to Collecting

December 13th, 2011  |  Published in French

Article by Bob Shanty

Wine is a classic, sophisticated beverage that is popular around the world. Wine collecting is an ideal hobby for those who appreciate the finer things in life. The most effective way of protecting your precious wine collection is to store your bottles in wine cellars or wine storage refrigerators. This is especially essential for premium wines that are bought for investment purposes. Wines that are stored at a perfectly even temperature are richer in taste, aroma and flavor.

What does a wine cellar/refrigerator do?

Wine is a natural beverage that easily spoils in the absence of proper storage. As wine matures, it is essential to keep it minimally exposed to heat, light, vibrations and variations in temperature and humidity. Wine cellars and refrigerators offer complete darkness and constant temperature, the necessary conditions to keep your wine tasting great. Wine cellar is the perfect choice for serious wine lovers. What are the factors to be considered when buying thermoelectric wine cooler?Thermoelectric wine cellars and refrigerators are available in many different sizes and designs. Prices vary based on the quality of the refrigerator and the number of bottles a cellar can hold.

Size and Space:

The first factor you should consider when purchasing a wine cellar is its size. You must decide how much space you are ready to allocate for a wine cellar at your home or business. If you are a small apartment dweller looking for a compact wine storage system, then a wine cellar that can store up to 20 or 25 bottles is your best option. Other wine refrigerators available in the market can store 110 to 500 bottles. These thermoelectric wine refrigerators are money savers, as they are economical in price and design. They occupy comparatively less space and can be self assembled. A select few thermoelectric wine cellars and fridges require a larger clearance of space for the cooling unit to function properly.

Quality:

The style and elegance of a wine cellar is based on the quality of the model. If you are a serious wine lover searching for a perfectly designed wine cellar, there are many available in the market. In this case, however, you may need an unlimited budget. High quality is directly proportional to the amount of money you must invest. If you are willing to dish out the cash, opt for high end models. The wine lover in you will not be disappointed.

Design of the Cellar:

If the design and appearance of thermoelectric wine cellars and refrigerators play a significant role in your buying decision, then take a look at the furniture style wine cellars and refrigerators. A furniture style wine refrigerator is artistically designed and complements your home furnishings. It is often constructed of solid oak or cherry wood and displays intricate workmanship.

Shelves and Racks:

The major components of wine cellars and fridges are their shelves and racks, since they determine the number of bottles that can be stored at any one time. It is essential to consider the capacity and size of each rack and shelf. You need a three and three quarter inch slot to store large bottles. If you are a serious wine collector, then it is wise to select a wine storage system with spacious racks and shelves. Some cellars let you pull the racks out for easy access to your wine bottles. This facility proves to be useful if you own a large wine collection.

Cooling System:

The cooling system is a significant consideration for selecting a wine fridge or cellar. The ideal cooling system must be free from vibrations in order to ensure the proper storage of wine. The less vibration caused by the cooling system, the better the wine cellar or fridge is. You should also take into consideration the noise level of a wine storage system while making your purchase.

Insulation:

You also need to carefully evaluate the cooling systems insulation before making a wine cellar purchase. The storage units insulation plays a critical role in maintaining the optimum temperature. This is a crucial factor in properly storing your wine collection.

What are Wine Rooms?

Wine rooms are large refrigerators designed exclusively for the most passionate wine collectors. These unusual and rare refrigerators are mostly used by organizations for collecting and storing thousands of wine bottles. A wine room offers complete cooling and humidity control to protect large wine collections from any kind of harm.

Home Brewing Recipes Make Some of the Best Beer

December 9th, 2011  |  Published in Wine

Home brewing is a process that many people have enjoyed for a number of years. There might be people who do not want to be inconvenienced, so they would rather take a quick trip to their local grocery or liquor store. They would prefer to leave their beer in the hands of commercial brands that have been in the beer making business for a long time. But, when you pay for this “convenience,” the cost can add up. It might not seem like a lot here and there. However, when you sit down and do the math, you realize that a year’s worth of store bought beer can actually cost tons of money.

At first look, buying your own home brew supplies will not make any sense. You probably think that for the same cost as these supplies cost, you can buy beer several nights and a row and still come out even, all without taking the time to home brew beer. But, if you take a second look, you will find that it is the superior option. You can have a beer made to your specifications. And, even though you the cost of the supplies is the same as a crate of beer, you can continuously use them. So, once you locate a dealer, the cost of the supplies comes out a lot cheaper than buying beer in a store.

There is also the thought of the hard work that entails making a home brew beer. After all, isn’t that what major beer companies are for? Well, of course, but think about it in this light for a moment. You can save yourself the inconvenience of cooking by eating out every single night, but wouldn’t you save a ton of money by cooking for yourself? The more you practice, the better you will get at home brewing. Before you know it, you will have many home brewing recipes at your disposal to make every brew customized just the way you like it.

It is easy to find home brew supplies no matter where you live. If you can’t find exactly what you want in a store, you can always shop on the internet, and you can probably come out cheaper. Not all supplies are the same; it depends on what type of kit you purchase. Kits range from a preparation receptacle that requires kitchen tools to dedicated brewing utensils that give you a wider range of brewing options.

If you have not purchased home brew supplies before, don’t worry; they come with instructions. So, if you are a first timer, make sure you read and closely follow each and every step. If you keep making your home brew beer the same way, you will eventually become adept enough in your technique to start making variations. Home brewing will take time and hard work, but the end result is worth it all.

Home Beer Brewing Secrets Honest Review

December 6th, 2011  |  Published in Wine

Well first off I want to tell you I usually don’t do all this online eBook stuff. I always think of it to be scams and rip offs but my friend convinced me so much to give this one a shot I thought why not. After tasting his beer I wanted to try it out for myself!

The eBook goes into great detail about every aspect of what you need to know. It goes into ingredients, good environments to make beer in and even shows you why usual homemade beer tastes so bad. The secret way to store your beer and stop it from spoiling has been a “beer saver” for me, allowing me to make vast quantities of beer at a time and not worry about having to drink them all before they spoil. The eBook goes into detail about proper storage and drinking responsibly as well.

If you’re sick of going to the pub and paying sometimes up to $8 for a pint then this guide is for you. For very little money you can start making your own beer, in turn saving you money. For mere pennies you’ll have your own brewery in your garage, shed or even your main house.

Like I said at the beginning I was skeptical buying this guide but I am so glad that I did. It taught me everything I needed to know and tells of closely guarded secrets I’d never have even imagined before for getting the best possible taste and colour.

So if there is anyone out there sick of high prices for lager and wishing to start making their own, this is definitely the right guide for you. Whether you want to make a few pints worth a month or a few kegs a month this guide will tell you everything you need to know.

Wine Refrigerator Buying Tips – Protect Your Wines

December 6th, 2011  |  Published in Wine

If you are like most wine collectors – or just those who like to have a glass of wine with their meals – the purchase of a wine refrigerator is a good investment!  Those folks who drink wine regularly know that wine tastes best when chilled to its appropriate temperature.  Unfortunately, storing and chilling your wine collection in a home refrigerator is not a good idea because traditional refrigerators do not maintain proper temperature and humidity necessary for wine storage.  Other options such as storage in a kitchen pantry or cabinet is not feasible since storage conditions can fluctuate which will cause the quality of the wine to deteriorate and cause spoilage.  Another point to consider is that fine wine needs to be stored horizontally to keep the cork moist, and this is only possible with a special wine bottle refrigerator that allows this type of storage.

In case you’re a novice with wines and are looking to buy your first refrigerator, let’s review the ideal wine storage temperatures.  The ideal temperature for storing and cooling wines is 55 to 58 degrees Fahrenheit.  The best serving temperatures vary somewhat based upon the specific wine:  champagne and sparkling wines 53-57 degrees F; light red wines 54-57 degrees F; rich red wine and full-bodied vintages 59-68 degrees F; light red 54-57 degrees F.  When you are considering which refrigerator to purchase, make sure to take into account these temperatures and what type of wine you prefer in order to be able to select the best refrigerator for your needs.

Another important consideration when selecting a wine fridge is humidity.  To maintain the best taste, wine must be stored at humidity levels of around 70% RH.  This humidity level will assure that the cork will not dry out and that oxygen will not penetrate the wine bottle and cause the wine to spoil.  Wine refrigerators keep humidity constant, providing optimal storage conditions for your fine wines.

Last but not least, another factor you must consider when choosing your wine refrigerator is your budget.  If your budget is limited, consider purchasing a small wine cooler (such as a compact 12-bottle fridge) which is the ideal way to get started if you have only a few bottles you want to store.  There are many models to choose from which will provide you years of enjoyment.  Of course, if your wine investment/hobby is more serious and your budget is less restrained, you can select a refrigerator that will easily store 200 or more bottles.

Buying a wine refrigerator to preserve your fine wines and champagnes is a wise investment.  Everyone from the beginner wine enthusiast to the seasoned wine taster will benefit from ideal wine storage.

Wine Bottle Refrigerators: Which Size is Best?

November 20th, 2011  |  Published in Wine

There is a vast array of wine bottle refrigerators available and you’ll find everything from tiny tabletop fridges to giant ones that practically create their own wine cellar. How do you choose which one works for you? Do you go for big, small or medium? This article will help you make a decision as to which wine fridge is best for you.

Space is a huge consideration when choosing your wine bottle refrigerator. Obviously, if you have nowhere to put a large fridge, there’s no point in buying one. While countertop and table top wine coolers are quite popular, these may not be right for you either, particularly if you have a minimal amount of table or counter space.

Once you have determined the size of the fridge you can move in, you’ll need to assess how much wine you actually drink. If your consumption is pretty low, say 1 bottle a month, you certainly don’t need a large fridge that holds 50 bottles . . . it would take you years to get through them all. However, a small six bottle fridge could be just right and will tide you over for half a year.

For anyone who enjoys throwing dinner parties or wine tastings, it’s vital to have plenty of room. You’ll want to make sure that you have more than enough bottles at the right temperature for serving at all times. This is also handy if you have unexpected guests, your wine will already be perfectly chilled.

A wine bottle refrigerator should also be selected for how it fits into your home. If you have a country style house, then a chrome and glass fridge isn’t going to fit in very well. However, you can get built in wine refrigerators with many different stylings, including wood. These will fit right into your existing décor and can be a good way to store your wine without making it too obvious. There are large versions, as well as under the counter types which tuck away quite nicely.

No matter which size of wine bottle refrigerator you choose, make sure that it is large enough to fit your collection and don’t forget to look at your options. There are so many different types of refrigerators that you are bound to find one that you like and which fits into your home nicely. Having your wine stored at the right temperature is really the only way to enjoy it, whether white or red.

Want to really get the most out of your wine? Then you’ll need to start looking at wine bottle refrigerators. They offer a number of options and can be the perfect addition to your home.
