Question by Downtown L. A. GUY: What do you know about RED WINE? This question is for everyone but “WickedMagnet” are you out there?
O.K. People Listen up! Page one (1) of the Front Section (HEADLINES) of the April 25, 2007 Edition of the Los Angeles Times, has an ARTICLE on YAHOO ANSWERS. According to the article, “WickedMagnet” is an expert on Health and Beauty, The Los Angeles TImes gives her real name, (but I wont, issues of privace may be involved). Any way here is my question; We all have heard of the Health Benefits of RED WINE! But, when I go to the supermarket, I do not see any wine that is “Red” all I see is Dark Wine and Wine that is color yellow! Question: Is Red Wine, “Red?” Can someone, anyone, give me the specific name and specific brand of a “Red Wine” Last Question; Can I overindulge on Red Wine Without worrying about my liver exploding some day? In other words, will ABUSING Red Wine damage my liver just as bad as ABUSING Beer? Riddle me that one? I am asking the above questions because I really really do not know!

Geez! that wine you saw on supermarket maybe its not stored properly thats why some wine should have a good light exposures and temperature. If you plans to go wine shopping, go to place where there are some promoters who could explain wine well. Also there are diffrent kinds of wine, some were high-end wine and others are cheaper ones which are meant to consumme once uncorked. There are health benefits in wine, its good for the heart and rich in flavanoids. But of course anything too much would be harmful to your health, 2 glasses a day is fine and drink moderately.

Well, the term “red wine” is just a common name for wine that is made from red grapes. I know it’s not actually red, but it’s close enough, so don’t be an a**. The wine is more of a burgundy color, but it’s easier to say “red wine.” And the yellow wine is not “yellow wine”, it’s white wine, made from green grapes. They are just formal terms for wine. No big deal. And wine is very healthy for the heart. Doctors actually recommend to drink a glass a day because grapes give off these antioxidents or whatever, that helps your heart. But it is better to drink grape juice rather than red wine because of the alcohol. And alcohol is damaging to the liver rather it be beer or wine. Everything should be eaten or taken moderately. It’s just balance of life. Hope this helps.

To your last question red wine will abuse your liver just as much as beer the health benefits (if they do exist) are from the flavonoids and other antioxidants in the wine but they are suppose to decrease the risk of heart disease not exploding your liver

Well first YES you can overindulge in wine. I know first hand wine hangovers are the worst kind to have. Red wines are made from red grapes and the dark wines you see are the reds. I really don’t like the white wines (or yellow) but that’s personal preference. Ecco Domoni is an inexpensive Merlot I enjoy, not top of the line but good. Read the labels. For the reds you can have Merlot, Cabernet, Sangiovese, Red Zinfandel’s but those are harder to find, Pinot Noir. As far as the damage to your liver, red wine has many benefits to your heart and blood flow but I think beer would have more negative affects to you liver because most people cannot drink 2 bottles of wine, especially red. That equals about a six pack of beer if your drinking standard bottles of wine. I love red wine, there are so many to choose from and it’s all about personal preference. Try a few different brands and types to find what suits your taste. Remember, red wine hangovers are the worst so don’t indulge too much. Other brands that are popular are Sutter Home which are decent, Louis Jardot, Yellowtail, read the labels, anything from California is pretty good and inexpensive and Australia.

When you talk about yellow wine, yep, that’s white wine. The darker the colour, the older the wine; or the worse the degradation of the wine due to poor storage of the wine. “Dark wine”, I guess that’s gotta be red wine.
A few rules. All alcohol can damage your liver. Wine, especially red, does contain compounds that can give some protection against cardiovascular disease and stroke (via anticoagulant effects. most strokes are due to a clot rather than a bleed). Don’t buy wine from a supermarket, unless your choice is dictated by price not quality. Buy wine from a good wine specialist retailer or direct from cellar door, where someone can advise and educate you regarding wine, which is help that you certainly appear to need!
The enjoyment gained by drinking wine adds to its health benefits.
Drink wine in moderations. A few glasses a week with 2-3 alcohol free days has a nett positive health benefit for most people.
And most importantly remember that LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO DRINK BAD WINE!

First of all you can’t tell the actual color of a red wine in a bottle because the bottle is not made of clear glass , it’s usually made of green glass to protect the wine from the harmful effects of light.
Secondly the actual color of a wine is a combination of what grape(s) it was made from and how old it is .Older wines 15+ years tend to get a brickish red color.
As a generalization fuller/bigger bodied reds tend to be more purply than red .
If you want an actual RED wine find a pinot noir. If it’s French it’s simply red wine from the Burgundy region
The straw colored wines are probably that nasty California version of Chardonnay that has been sitting in oak barrrels long enough to impart an oakey flavor and color to the wine.
