for cooking, is burgundy cooking wine the same as red wine?

I found a recipe for beef stew and alot of the reviews said they added red wine. I found burgundy cooking wine at the store, is this the same thing and if not can I use it instead?

you are better off with cheap red wine…. try never to use cooking wine. I follow these simple rule ” If it aint good for drinking it aint good for cooking”.

Not the same. But that doesn’t mean you’ll make a bad dish. I red wine is going to be a little sweeter, but a burgundy would go great with many types of beef. Burgundy can be a little over powering to cook with so you may want to cut it in half and add to taste after cooking, not ideal but changing a recipe requires a little experimenting.

Burgundy works fine with beef. However, I don’t use cooking wine because it has a lot of salt. You may want to adjust the salt in the recipe (it’s easier to add more than take out). Next time, just buy a bottle of regular burgundy…then you can have a glass with the meal as well (it’s also cheaper, when you consider the size of the bottle).
